Why Books Still Matter: Solutions

When we are looking for answers, it’s because we need to know what to do next.

How do I solve this problem?
How do I get from here to there?
What am I missing?
Who has already figured this out?

That’s where books can be incredibly powerful.

A good book can take years of someone’s experience, mistakes, discoveries, and hard-won lessons and put them into your hands when you need them.

Someone else’s years can become your next best step.

Think about the last time you were trying to figure something out.

Maybe you were starting a business.
Trying to become a better speaker or leader.
Navigating a difficult transition.
Learning something completely new.
Trying to fix something that wasn’t working.

You were somewhere between where you started and where you wanted to go.

You were in the Messy Middle.

The beginning is usually exciting. The destination is motivating.

But the middle?

That’s where we need help.

That’s where we start looking for ideas, examples, instructions, experience, perspective, and sometimes simply someone who has been there before.

A book can become a roadmap.

It can become a teacher.

It can become a mentor sitting quietly on a bookshelf, waiting until you’re ready to ask the question it can help answer.

And here’s something interesting I’m seeing in our business right now:

More and more authors are reaching their own Messy Middle.

They’re coming to us with a first draft already written.

They’ve done the hard part. They’ve gotten the ideas out of their heads and onto the page.

Some have even created a cover using AI or pulled together screenshots of covers they admire on Amazon.

They’ve taken their book as far as they can take it on their own.

And then they reach the Messy Middle.

The puzzle pieces are all there.

They just need someone who knows how to put them together.

That’s where we come in.

Our job isn’t to take away the author’s vision.

It’s to help them finish the puzzle.

We help bring the pieces together: the editing, structure, design, formatting, cover development, publishing details, and all the little decisions that turn a manuscript into a professional book.

Because writing the first draft is one accomplishment.

Creating and publishing the finished book is another.

And sometimes, being brave means recognizing when you need help bringing your ideas across the finish line.

But there’s another person at the end of this process who may also be standing in their own Messy Middle.

The reader.

They may be searching for an answer.

A process.

A fresh idea.

A new way of looking at an old problem.

Or simply someone who has already walked the road they’re beginning to travel.

That’s the beautiful thing about a finished book.

The author has taken everything they’ve learned and assembled it into something another person can pick up and use.

The author’s solution becomes the reader’s possibility.

Maybe that’s another reason we still LOVE books.

Sometimes we’re looking for an idea.

Sometimes we’re looking for a process.

Sometimes we’re looking for someone who has already figured it out.

Sometimes, we’re simply looking for the next piece of the puzzle.
